THE MATERIAL
Block-and-insulation.jpg

HOW ARE ECOBRIX MADE?

ECOBRIX source softwood fibre from recyclers who process waste wood. They supply to an exact specification with all foreign materials (nails etc.) removed from the waste wood.

The wood fibre is firstly mineralised, which turns it inert.

The wood fibre is then mixed with cement and other chemicals in a concrete batching plant which has been specially adapted for this process.

The woodcrete wall form units are laid out on the factory floor and covered with polythene. This stops the water in the mix evaporating whilst the chemical reaction between the materials sets the block units. This chemical reaction produces so much heat that the manufacturing facility does not require any heating.

New insulated concrete form units set to dry in Ecobrix UK factory It takes approximately 24 hours for the wall form units to set on the floor after which time they are picked up with hydraulic grabs and transported to an interim storage area to continue curing.

Three days later the Ecobrix units go through a trimming process which ensures they are within a very tight tolerance. Once an order has been placed, the ICF units are insulated and wrapped on a pallet to await delivery. To ensure they are properly cured the wall form units must be at least 30 days old prior to delivery.

WHY CHOSE ECOBRIX

ECOBRIX woodcrete ICF blocks offer a variety of benefits for your build project

Sustainable

ECOBRIX woodcrete ICF wall form units are a truly green and healthy product. Our environmentally friendly ICF forms use recycled material, softwood aggregates that are by-products of the timber industry.

Thermal Efficiency

ECOBRIX wall form units are designed so that the insulation is external to the concrete core and wraps around the full envelope of the wall, reduced heating costs as heat is transferred back into the cooler air.

Easy to use

One of the principal benefits of the ECOBRIX system is the ease of construction. It’s a simple to use build system, which can be managed by both experienced contractors as well as first-time self-builders.

Fire Resistant

ECOBRIX woodcrete wall form units have attained European levels of fire resistance, 90-minute certified fire rating, which are considerably higher than the UK regulations.

Acoustic Performance

The considerable concrete mass in a ECOBRIX wall system when used in conjunction with appropriate finishes provides an excellent reduction in sound transmission.

British Manufactured

ECOBRIX woodcrete wall form units are manufactured at our factory in the UK giving us complete control of the production process and ensures we maintain our high standards.

ECOBRIX CONSTRUCTION

Dry Stacking

Ecobrix units are designed for quick construction without the need for additional supports or props. The pre-insulated interlocking units are dry stacked together to form the walls.

Concrete Infill

Once the units are stacked, they are in-filled with concrete to form a monolithic structural walling system. This ensures the wall's strength and stability.

No Need for Propping

Unlike some other construction methods, there's no need to prop the walls during construction as the weight of the units holds them in place.

Versatility in Design

Ecobrix units come in various types suitable for different wall needs, from internal to external walls. They can be easily cut and shaped on-site to fit around architectural features or utilities.

Joining Walls

Internal and external Ecobrix walls can be joined seamlessly, ensuring structural integrity throughout the building. Special techniques, such as foaming joints, are used to ensure a tight and secure fit.

Openings and Lintels

Openings for windows and doors can be easily incorporated into the Ecobrix wall system.

Lintels, which support the weight above these openings, can be integrated without hassle.

Finishing

Once the Ecobrix wall system is in place, various internal and external finishes can be applied directly to the walls, from rendering to cladding, depending on the desired aesthetic and functional requirements.

ECOBRIX OUR VISION

As the home building industry continues to face new and changing market conditions in the last 18 months, the need for a reliable cost-effective solution has become essential.

Build costs for existing timber frame constructions have been a major challenge, putting many sites on hold due to an imbalanced cost-profit ratio.

The recent introduction of new government guidelines requiring improved insulation for newly built homes has only further complicated the issue. With the continual challenge of rising energy costs, finding an economically sound alternative has become imperative.

This is where Ecobrix product comes into play. The unique material and building solution reduces the cost of home construction while providing noticeably lower running costs regarding energy consumption. This is especially beneficial to social housing projects, and for their tenants ongoing.

With the Ecobrix product, clients can receive a British made product without sacrificing location or delivery times.
